Short answer
A parking duration study measures how long vehicles remain within a defined parking area using an agreed observation, matching and privacy approach.
Separate the metric
Occupancy is a snapshot of eligible spaces. Duration follows stays over time and therefore needs a method that can recognise arrival, departure or a lawful repeat observation without confusing one vehicle for another.
Define the inventory and window
Map eligible bays, loading areas and exclusions; state sweep frequency or matching window, days, operating conditions and how vehicles that leave the view are treated.
Report limits
A duration result describes observed stays in the selected boundary and period. It is not a universal demand forecast and should not hide incomplete visibility or uncertain matches.

Can duration be calculated from one occupancy sweep?
No. A single snapshot cannot establish how long a vehicle has stayed.
Can video be used?
Yes, where the bays and matching cues remain visible and the handling method is appropriate.
